Virtual Meetings and Job

Von: FB 03 - Studienbüro

Dear MIEPP Students,

Today I have a bit of a different newsletter for you. Considering the truly extraordinary semester that just finished, the question of student life and social interactions has been coming up. Therefore, this newsletter will include:

-          Virtual MIEPP meetings

-          Jobs

Due to some students bringing up the lack of student life and social interaction during the last semester, especially during the soft lock down time, members of the MIEPP faculty have gotten the ball rolling regarding virtual meetings during the coming semester as a potential Band-Aid solution. This is the kick off message:

“Given special circumstances due to Coivid-19, the MIEPP faculty offers regular virtual student meetings via MS Teams. These meetings cannot replace personal contact but are better than no contact at all. Experience from the summer term has shown that many students miss regular informal meetings with other students. The plan for these virtual meetings is as follows:

In the first MIEPP week - the introduction week starting 26 October - there will be one virtual meeting. The date will be announced soon. As of 2 November, we plan two meetings per week. The dates will be chosen via a doodle your student representatives, Felicia Henschler and Johannes Elz, will send around soon. The meetings will be organized and last for 90 minutes. Of course, everybody is free to continue to chat on an individual basis thereafter.

The student representatives are committed to organizing these meetings for the entire month of November. Depending on your interest and participation, we are happy to extend these meetings further. While these meetings are informal and - no, they are not relevant for the exam and there are no credits 😉 we recommend you to be present as much as we recommend you to be present in lectures. Humans are social beings and one of the problems resulting from the current epidemic is the lack of social interactions.

So, please wait for the email from student representatives with the doodle. Then we can start.”

For each of you who feel like you could use some more opportunities to informally connect with your fellow students, this is an easy way to do so.

Furthermore, the German Development Institute is also looking for researchers. The full job description is attached to this email.

We all know that this next semester is also intertwined with a high degree of uncertainty. We realize that this is not always easy for everyone and are trying to make the best of a bad situation. Hopefully, last semester was a worthy start and next semester we will see both, an overall improved pandemic situation and more refined efforts to make for smooth student and learning experiences.

Sincerely,

Christoph Wirp
