Introductory Econometrics Exam Registration, no Office Hours on Thursday and an Internship

Von: FB 03 - Studienbüro

Dear MIEPP Students,

It has been a while since you have heard from me but I thought I would light up your advent time with a newsletter about exam registration (among other things). Of course, being a MIEPP student, you await no time of the year more longingly than exam time so here we go, it is coming up. Other news are:

-          No office Hours on Thursday

-          Internship

First of all sorry if I got your hopes up completely, exams are not actually starting soon. Yet, exam registration for the Introductory Econometrics Exam started today. This registration period will go from today:

December 10, 1 pm. until December 21, also 1 pm.

If you are at all planning on taking this exam, you have to register within this timeframe. If you have not registered by the end of this period, you cannot take the exam.

In case you are unfamiliar with the rules, here are some useful pointers for the exam registration process:

The Main Exams: Since you can decide for yourself if you comprehend the exam relevant material, you can decide your first examination date and are required to register for exams yourself via Jogustine. The registration for an exam is only possible if you have previously registered properly for the respective modules and courses and have also submitted the form of application for admission to the Master’s examination in International Economics and Public Policy. The exam registration is only possible within the period mentioned above. The Registrar’s Office will not offer any subsequent registration once the registration period is over. Students who fail to meet the deadline must wait until the next main exam registration period. Additionally, you will not be able to register for any repeat exam if you have not registered for the main exams before. Note that a subsequent registration through the Registrar’s Office is not possible, even if you submit a medical certificate, which confirms that you were ill during the registration period. Despite illness, you should be able to register for the exams since this can be done online from anywhere. In case of technical problems during the registration via Jogustine, please immediately contact the Jogustine-Hotline or the Registrar’s Office within the registration period. Please check within the deadline whether your registration has been successfully completed. If this is not the case, try again or contact us immediately.

The Repeat Exams: As mentioned above, you will not be allowed to register for any repeat exam if you have not registered for the respective main exam, i.e. only students who have failed the main exam are allowed to participate in the respective repeat exam. If you have missed an exam due to illness and were exempt by a doctor’s note, you will be automatically registered for the next exam by the Study Office. You are not required to do anything. As a student of the master program, if you simply failed and were not sick, you are, free to decide whether you go through the repeat exam now or wait until the next repeat exam’s date (one semester or even one year). You will thus not be automatically registered for the next exam. The registration period for the repeat exams starts 14 days prior to the repeat exam’s date and ends 7 days prior to the repeat exam’s date (The registration period for the repeat exams is just one week).

Next, my office hours on Thursday, December 13 are cancelled. If you need to see me either come by on Tuesday or simply the week after. I will also not be answering to emails staring on Wednesday until Monday so keep that in mind when I take longer than usual to respond.

Finally, there is an internship opportunity from Brot für die Welt attached to this email so you can check it out if you are interested.

I hope you are all having a great semester so far, are not stressing too much but rather are in a relaxed mood with the short Christmas break coming up. If not, at least consider not thinking about economics (too much) for a few days during your break.

Sincerely,

Christoph Wirp
