Tons of Announcements

Von: FB 03 - Studienbüro

Dear MIEPP Students,

It has been so long since the last newsletter, most of you probably forgot I exist. Alas, I am still here and the next semester will start in the not so distant future. So in order to get into the groove again, let’s start with an easy (yet long) newsletter full of useful, yet not mandatory announcements:

-          Inequality symposium

-          Introduction of the courses

-          Job Opening German Council of Economic Experts

-          PhD Opening in Verona

-          Workshop on Development Economics

-          Summer School in ISEO

-          New Student welcome and get together

Alright, as I have collected quite a few things for you, I will keep all of them short.

The beginning makes a short message from Prof. Schunk:

Dear students,

I am happy to announce that there will be a symposium on inequality on the 12th of April at the JGU. Keynote speaker of the symposium will be Professor Christoph M. Schmidt – Chairman of the German Council of Economic Experts and President of the RWI – Leibniz Institute for Economic Research.

The symposium will feature talks from researchers and practitioners from various backgrounds on the topic of inequality. The symposium is jointly organized by the priority research program “Interdisciplinary Public Policy” and the Mercator Science-Policy Fellowship Program.

You are hereby invited to attend the talks of the symposium. For more information, please find the agenda attached.

Best wishes

Daniel Schunk

Next, as every semester, all of the professors will introduce themselves and their courses. For all of you who have not quite yet decided which courses you would like to take or would like to get a look at the new professors Hett and Sauré, this will be an excellent opportunity. The presentations will be on Tuesday, April 16, at 2.15 p.m. Room: RW 3 (ReWi I).

There is a job opening from the German Council of Economic Experts (Sachverständigenrat) attached.

Also, there is an attachment about PhD positions in Verona (Italy).

Furthermore, there is an attachment for a workshop about projects developing countries.

I was additionally asked to bring the Summer school in Iseo (close to Milan, Italy) to your attention. Apparently, some Nobel Laureates will be included in the courses (I do not know to which extend). Robert Engle (Nobel 2003), Robert Merton (Nobel 1997), and Michael Spence (Nobel 2001) will be featured with the main theme being "Challenges and Opportunities in a Shifting Global Economy". Please keep in mind that this is not a lecture held or endorsed by our program, this is simply to inform you about the possibility of going. It might be possible to receive credit for one (or more) lectures taken at the summer school, more information can be found here:

Finally, since I do not know when the next newsletter is going to be coming out, an early reminder that on April 16th, the new students will have their welcome event in the Kasematten (down the stairs in the new ReWi building) at 7 pm. This will as always be a great opportunity to welcome the new students and catch up with old classmates and of course you are invited.

That is it from me, have a great Easter weekend, enjoy the quiet weekend before the next semester starts.

Sincerely,

Christoph Wirp
