Course Registration, Stata Course and Fun Stuff

Von: FB 03 - Studienbüro <studienbuero-fb03 AT uni-mainz.de>

Dear MIEPP Students,

First of all welcome again to all of the new students and first time receivers of the newsletter. I hope you are having a blast in your math course and even if not, the real fun is about to begin. Now that everyone is settled in again and getting super hyped for all of the courses in the upcoming semester, I have another newsletter for you. It will consist of but not be limited to:

-          Course registration

-          Stata Introduction

-          Pub Crawl

-          City Tour

As every semester, we will open up course registration again next week and keep it open until the end of exam registration. This gives you the opportunity to check out more courses that you might want to take an exam in and gives you extra flexibility. Please keep in mind that you deregister from excess courses (the ones you do not want to take an exam in) yourself or they will block you from taking new courses in the future.

Also, a lot of useful work in economics is done using statistics programs such as Stata. In order to help you get accustomed to such statistics programs, the chairs of Prof. van Evijk and Prof. Schank are organizing a Stata introduction course again. Even if you are not going to partake in the statistics course this semester, it is always useful to be able to handle statistics programs such as Stata for the writing of seminar papers or the master thesis. Here is the original message:

As already mentioned in last week’s newsletter, the pub Crawl will take place April 25 at 6:30 pm and all of you are invited to come. While this was originally geared towards first semester students, it has become tradition that as many of the MIEPP students as possible partake in the Pub Crawl. The meeting point is the train station Römisches Theater. It was great to see so many of you show up for the welcome reception on Monday and it makes me confident to think that the tradition of the MIEPP pub crawl will receive a new worthy chapter from all of you next Thursday.

The student representatives have also organized a city tour on April 27. The meeting point is again the train station Römisches Theater, just this time it is 10:00 am. If you are new to Mainz or you simply want to get a better look at the city, you are invited to come.

That is all from my side, enjoy the sun, the long weekend, eat some chocolate, enjoy life and have a happy Easter.

Sincerely,

Christoph Wirp
